Back in 2017, our partnership started on a project-by-project basis. However, fast-forward a few years and Kahoot! works with us on an embedded recruitment model so they could continue to scale up its Engineering, Product, and Design teams.

The Early Stages of the Hiring Process

All the way back in 2017, Kahoot! was up against a slim candidate market in Norway, making it difficult to find the exceptional talent they needed to ramp up hiring in their engineering and product teams.

In order to combat this, they were looking at expanding their talent pool to the international market. While this strategy seemed promising, their recruitment team was struggling to attract the high-quality candidates due to a highly competitive market in Norway and internationally. This challenge was made harder by the fact that Kahoot! had a very small team running both people and recruitment compared to the overall size and growth rate of the company - a capacity constraint that meant they needed to look outward to reach their hiring goals.

The Process

In the beginning, filling key roles on a project-by-project basis was important, however, the teams at Kahoot! soon needed to increase bandwidth from a strategic and operational standpoint. It was at this point where Amby and Kahoot! decided to switch to our embedded model so that our consultants could also assist the team at Kahoot! in growing their international employer brand and adding to their existing recruitment infrastructure while continuing to assist them in sourcing large amounts of unicorn candidates to join their engineering and product teams.




Prior to being embedded, the Frontend Engineering Manager was spending a lot of time on operational recruitment tasks. With Kahoot! being such a big brand in Norway, they received countless applications that were time-consuming to sort through, which was impacting their Frontend Engineering Manager’s day-to-day productivity. Once the Amby team went fully embedded, our consultants were able to take many of these time-consuming recruitment tasks off his hands. Our embedded recruiters focused on sourcing quality candidates, reviewing pipelines, and doing very thorough screenings to ensure that only top talent was being reviewed by the Kahoot! team.

In addition to taking over the day-to-day operations, the Amby team focused on key recruitment infrastructure projects such as salary benchmarking and international market research. These insights allowed Kahoot! to further strengthen its position in a competitive international environment so that the team could continue to land those unicorn hires.

The Result

With the additional resources and having the same Amby consultants embedded at Kahoot! for a long time, the partnership ensured the stability and flexibility to maximize ROI. With a boost from our Amby consultants, Kahoot! established itself as a world-class employer brand by creating landing pages, career pages, job ads, and blogs that showcased its serious engineering culture and multicultural working environment to international candidates. These initiatives also allowed Kahoot! to compete more aggressively in a candidate-driven market, which meant the team could attract the unicorn talent they were looking for.

At a day-to-day operational level, Amby’s added recruitment capacity allowed Kahoot! employees to get back to focusing on what they do best - developing world-class software that makes learning easier and more interactive.
